The Beer Bath Ritual
What to Expect Before You Arrive
Welcome to a place where time slows down and nature meets indulgence. Nestled in the quiet seaside village of Árskógssandur, just 30 minutes from Akureyri and five hours from Reykjavík, our beer spa offers a truly unique and deeply restorative experience — blending Icelandic nature, local craftsmanship, and the centuries-old healing power of brewing ingredients.
Your journey begins the moment you arrive. You’ll be greeted with a soft bathrobe and offered a secure locker for your belongings. If you wish to soak in the fresh sea air and breathtaking views from our outdoor area, we recommend arriving at least one hour before your scheduled bath. If you’re heading straight to your session, please arrive no later than 15 minutes beforehand.
Each booking includes:
30 minutes of private bathing in a handcrafted wooden beer tub
20 minutes of peaceful post-bath relaxation in our quiet room
Our baths are filled with a specially prepared mixture of warm water, live beer yeast, young beer, hops, natural bath salts, and aromatic beer oil — produced by SÁELA, a Czech artisan company known for luxurious, beer-based skincare. Rich in B vitamins and antioxidants, this combination is designed to soften the skin, strengthen the hair, and support overall well-being.
The beer used in the bath is fresh, 3–5 days old, unfermented, and alcohol-free — making the beer bath completely safe for everyone, including young guests and those who do not consume alcohol.
We recommend not showering immediately afterwards, as the active ingredients will continue to benefit your skin and hair for hours beyond your session.
Right next to each bath, you'll find your own Kaldi beer tap — serving Iceland’s original craft beer, brewed just meters away at the renowned Bruggsmiðjan Kaldi Brewery.
You can learn more about the brewery or book a tour at: www.bruggsmidjan.is
After your bath, if you’re feeling hungry, we recommend visiting Ströndin Bistro, located just next door. The bistro is independently owned and offers a delicious local menu with ocean views. Please note that opening hours may vary, and reservations can be made at: dineout.is/strondinbistro

Beer Bath Etiquette
Relax like a local – here’s how to make the most of your soak
✅ DO:
Arrive on time – or better yet, early! Use our outdoor area and ease into the experience.
Take your time – this is about slowing down, not rushing through.
Use your personal Kaldi beer tap – enjoy Iceland’s first craft beer while you soak.
Let the ingredients do their magic – no need to shower after your bath. The nutrients are good for your skin and hair.
Keep your swimsuit on in the outdoor area – inside the tub? That’s entirely your choice.
Ask questions – our staff are happy to share tips, beer stories, and local recommendations.
Bring your gift card – and if you booked with a code like “GIFTCARD,” have it ready!
❌ DON’T:
Drink the bathwater – it may be made with beer, but it’s not that kind of party!
Use strong perfumes, lotions, or oils before bathing – they can interfere with the natural ingredients. (Just a recommendation)
Skip the post-bath relaxation – the 20-minute unwind is part of the ritual.
Worry about your hair getting wet – it’ll love the yeast and oils.
Forget to hydrate – we recommend a glass of water alongside your beer.
Bring glass or valuables into the bathing area – we have lockers for a reason.
